This problem doesnt occur at a specific time nor does it seem caused by a specific thing we do. If I turn the computer off and then restart, the problem seems to go away.

Your processor is telling the fan to speed up! This isnt uncommon if you are running lots of applications at once.

Most important thing with laptop cooling is that, like first person mentioned, you dont have it on your lap or bed. It's important to have it on a table or a stand where the case fans under the laptop can breathe. Another thing is to see whether it's the case fan that's speeding up or the CPU fan. If it's the CPU fan, then it's because you're running alot of programs and your CPU's working hard. If it's your case fans, then it might be the core tempurature, which is just bad air circulation. You can fix either of these by buying a small plate which goes right under your laptop that has two small fans on it that blow air upwards into the bottom of your laptop.

It may appear a problem with your fan, but it sounds like your laptops indexing service, which usually kicks in from time to time. You can disable this service if you don't need to search for files that often (using the search function) when you click on the start button, and then click on search.

yes. I seem to have the same problem with my laptop as well. sometimes it gets so hot, that I have to keep a blanket on my lap if I have my laptop on my lap. and the fan sounds like a lawn mower. I don't know what to do either.

make sure you don't set the laptop on your lap or the bed or anything. the fan may be blocked causing the computer to over heat so make sure it's raised up or on a solid surface.
