No quick fixes on a transmission, sounds like a fan belt. Easy to get at any automotive store and a quick fix. By the way to correct some previous answers, you do not need a mechanic to fix a belt. One of the easiest things to fix on a automobile. If your not sure how to on your model car, try looking online for a diagram (theres usually a diagram under the hood near the top of the radiator) if you can't find I'm sure any guy at an automotive store would help. There's no need to buy a whole automotive manual for something like this. Hope I was of some help, Merry Christmas.

Check your belts not timing belt. for tightness and replace if cracked or worn if they are glazed over you could get a can of belt dressing at an auto store and spray on belts and this should cure for a little while.Do not use oil on belt this will cause the belt to slip and deteriorate faster.

Use a drop of oil from the engine dipstick to smear on the inside of the fan belt. It is probably dried out and shiny which causes a shimmy sound. Check to ensure that it is not too loose or in fact too tight................

increase your insurance and try to do a good stop and squat in front of a mercedes or such. otherwise you pay about $2000 for transmission job. added insurance $200. just in case you lose the case. might as well add a little life insurance, too.

Your belts are slipping. Possibly get a new timing belt.
