I'm thinking about learning to play the guitar, but I am left-handed. Is is possible for a lefty to play a right handed guitar? If I play a righty guitar, what problems, if any, will I face? Also, what's the difference between a left-handed and right-handed guitar?

yes but its best to play it the natural way to you, bob geldof and paul macartney are left handed and so was jimi hendrix and pete soberman but you may not know him. left handed guitars are on sale at all good music shops now.

You can play a righty, but it will take some getting used to. Since you're just starting off, it may not be too bad, the best thing to do is to buy a lefty or, if money is an issue and you already have a righty, get your guitar center, or someone who knows how to string a guitar, and string the guitar for a lefty. Basically what you do is flip the guitar and string it that way. Hint: the pickguard, that funky looking thing under the sound hole, will be on top of the hole now. You're in good company, cobain and Hendrix were both lefties.

Yep you can you have a few options Learn to play it the way every one else does (difficult for a lefty),turn the guitar over restring it upside down or buy a left handed guitar yes they do make them! The problem you'll face is training your right hand to fret. The guitar for a lefty is backwards from a righties point of view the strings will be strung correctly and the scratch board below the picking point will be in the correct place when the guitar is made for a leftyBy the way there are some left handed players!

It will probably take awhile if you tried to learn right handed guitar, but it is easily possible. Plus, they do have lefty guitars out there.

it is a preference. i am righty and my instructor is a lefty, but we both play right handed guitars. if you are a lefty and play righty guitar, then you may find it easier to move around the fretboard, but a little awkward to pick. the opposite is true if you play lefty guitar. have fun, it's a great insturment to play

ROCK ON!

i think there is a difference in left and right guitar but its just the strings. ii think i can't really see what the major difference would be but i do remember seeing right handed guitar on ebay which i thought a bit odd but there must be a difference. good luck im a learner too.

Someone who was ambidextrous (someone who can write with both hands) could with no problems. Someone else can learn to play the opposite handed guitar.

If you're like me, a southpaw and " slightly ambidextrous," you can learn to play right-handed guitar. In fact, we sometimes have the advantage. I could twirl two batons better than the other girls who where right-handed.

It is possible but it depends on the kind of guitar. It depends on how the tuning pegs are arranged and volume knobs.....etc.Acoustic guitars are easier to play left and right handed.
