First of all, I know about primers, I know about careful makeup application, I know "less is more," I know about oil-controlling powders and blotter sheets. But what if you've tried all those things, as well as "touch ups," and your makeup still looks like crap (cakey, settling into fine lines, faded, and generally sloppy) by the end of the day?
Are there people whose makeup still looks beautiful from 7 am to 6 pm due to certain types of makeup / techniques... or is that an unrealistic expectation on my part and I should stop being frustrated?

yes it is unrealistic. the oil on your face increases, you touch your face, your hair touches your face...lots of stuff messes up makeup. if you have naturally beautiful, clear skin and barely wear makeup, then you will still look beautiful at 6pm. for those of us with typical blemishes and lines, we will always look like crap at the end of the day. makeup only helps for like 4 hours...and then you'd better have nice hair and a pretty smile because things won't look too hot in the middle.

Cheap make up is usually the problem. I just bought myself a whole new facial skin care system at Bare Escentuals (my sis works there so I got her discount). It really is phenomenal. I put on my makeup in the morning, and I had a party that evening. All I had to do before the party was reapply my mascara and lip gloss; everything else still looked (and I still felt) great.
So yes, it is possible for the makeup to still look nice, but I certainly never experienced it with brands like Covergirl, Maybelline, Loreal, etc.

try to apply less-your skin's natural oils will help smooth the surface of the make-up. Normally, when make-up is cakey, that means that there's too much of it. I also recommend not using powder foundation-it clogs pores and looks fake. I use Cover Girl TruBlend-It's thin enough that you can apply it with your fingers and it looks great, but it's thick enough to even skin tone and last a long time.
My make-up looks great all day-even through an hour-long gym class and oily teen skin...still.

That is unrealistic. You should think of carrying some makeup basics and makeup removing cloths in your purse if you are worried about it. Basic blush, powder and eyeshadow can be done in about 10 minutes, so you could reapply mid-day without too much hassle.

i think the same way. in the course of the summer season and days off from college, (i recognize this sounds loopy) yet i opt for to evoke earlier 7:30 or 8:00, otherwise, i think like my day is wasted. i do not opt for to easily take a seat round or sleep all day because then i think like I had a crappy day. So, yeah, i'm getting what you're announcing. :-D

I'm not sure what kind you use, but maybe try a higher quality cosmetic line? I found with make-up, you get what you pay for. So give that a try. . . . . it sounds like you have all the "training" maybe try a foundation that goes on creamy then dries to a powder finish . . . that's what i used when i was having that problem. . . . . I think that's all I got for ya! Good luck!

Try Arbonne's mineral powder foundation. I put mine on at 10 this morning. it's 6 p.m. and it still looks good, except my eyes cuz I rubbed them, but face still looks fine, and I have oily skin!
you can order at http://www.arbonne.com
You'll need a consultant ID mine is 16459642

Most people I know freshen their makeup, it hardly lasts.
But if you keep your look simple, it won't appear to fade.
Powder, bronzer, lip stain. Also a tinted moisturizer would give you a hint of color all day
