I erased my entire hard drive with a program called kill disc. then installed a pirate version of windows xp pro. I plugged in my high speed cable motem from my good computer to my now semi-restored laptop that i redid. im not sure whats wrong but it wont get online. I have a IBM thinkpad laptop. it has a phone jack and a jack for cable motem. plug in the cable motem but no internet when i open windows explorer...ive tried everything I know. First thing I'd do is reset the cable modem. Unplug it, wait a minute or two, then plug it back in. Using the power switch is not good enough. Check your connection again. If it still doesn't connect, there is a problem with the Windows networking. Open My Network Places to view any network connections. If it is showing a connected network, try right-clicking it and select Repair. If no network is showing on the screen, try running the Network Setup Wizard under the File menu of the toolbar. Hope one of these fixes help you.
