A great nation and a great military power can be two very different things. However I think to be a great military one needs to haveprofessional (not drafted) soldiers. I think one of the greatest strengths of thr US military is that it is an all-volunteer force. I have seen and worked with other nations' services and while some are better than others, there's something lacking when 90% of the guys are forced to serve for 2 years and know they are leaving for good right after that. Secondly I think staying on top of cutting edge technology is vital. IN the 1991 Gulf War we were able to identify and destroy moving targets at night far beyond the range where the enemy could even see us. Finally, training. All the best toys and motivated soldiers in the world dont mena anything unless they are trained well and trained to do their job in realistic situations. This is where the US military is getting worse as basic training becomes more and more PC. BUt all in all, the US still has the world's best fighting force and those are the reasons I beleive that. Hope this helps.
