If it is a cork gasket, I like to run a bead of silicone on the valve cover side, and a bead on the head before I put it on. Not a ton, just a little bit. If it is a ruber one, I dab a few spots with High-Tack silicone to hold it in place when you put the valve cover on. If it is a perma-dry type, just set it on the head and put the valve cover on it, and do it DRY. Hope this helps.

I always use a light coat of silicone too. It helps hold the gasket in place and helps seal any small leaks that may be left behind because of dirt, grit or even a stray piece of gasket

ALWAYS gasket and silicone. But not too much! Dont put on silicone and it wont seal for anything!

If you use a gasket sealer, use it sparingly/lightly. Make sure the two surfaces are clean and dry, and if you see silicone oozing out as you tighten the bolts, you have used too much.. ENJOY!
