Well - there are two USAF airbases in East Anglia, not too far from Norwich (Lakenheath being one of the biggest) - or is that not what you wanted to read?

A famous Russian politician and President of the USSR, Nikita Khrushchev, once described Britain as an American aircraft carrier.

That about sums it up during the Cold War and nothing much has happened to change that since. UK is occupied by American forces and has been since the end of WW2.

The American air bases that exist in the UK are there at the request of the British government. They stem back from cold war alliances that developed as a lesson from History. In WWII, the Nazis nearly wiped out the UK and would have if it were not for the Channel. American pilots that augmented the RAF, especially during the Battle of Britain, were crucial in keeping the Germans at bay. After WWII, the bases became a point from which the U.S. (as part of its NATO treaties) could project forces into Eastern Europe to deter aggression and defend its allies (UK) and interests. You should be thankful that Americans are willing to stick out their necks time and again to protect your lives and well-being. Cases in point: WWI, WWII, Cold War.

Yes. This is absolutely true, whether it be for military flights, or flights which "don't happen" (those nasty flying torture chambers the CIA like to use) - the US doesn't give a damn about anyone except themselves.

Plus the Americans can stop playing the "we saved you in WWII" card - if ONE country hadn't fought in WWII then everyone would have lost. If the RAF didn't have the Polish aces to bolster their ranks, if the French resistance hadn't helped the invasion, if the ANZAKS hadn't given the support of their troops then the invasion of Europe wouldn't have had enough manpower. We just as much saved them as they saved us. Without Britain as a base for the invasion then the US would never have 'freed' Europe, Hitler could have defeated the USSR, then moved on to either bully or invade the US too.

Err actually Americans neither need the British land nor its people. They just need a credible country to support her own agenda. UK is obliged to follow US's directions because of the past, which is unfortunate as US has made UK's foreign policies a laughing stock to EU and the rest of the world.

I can just see the anti-US posters being first in line when the balloon goes up - I don't think.
Go and have a look at some of the American War Graves in Europe and then see if you want to scoff. They died so you could abuse their memory.
I'd rather have some Yanks back and a few less whinging anti's around the place.

Well duh.

Every since, what WWII? And your just now hearing about it? America also has its greatest Spy Weapon there, 'Echelon.' With it, it can listen into EVERY call made around the World if wanted. As it is, it screens around 3 million calls hourly for keywords such as "bomb, terror, etc." One woman was shown on 60 Minutes, she had received a visit from the CIA after talking to her sister-in-law about her son's play 'bombing.' I guess by keeping it off American soil, they can use it like Guantanamo, without worrying about the Constitutionality of it.
