I am a young teenager of Italin and African decent. Though my years of school I have found that when someone I have known asks if I am 'black' and I explian my heritenge they may act differtly towards me. They may responed nicely but, most likely thats not the case. For example: my 'best friend', (she is Porto Ricen) along with our other friend who is African, consently makes remarks about how I act 'white' and sound 'white' how I look adopted when I'm with my mother and half sisters . My friend Munchkin ( he's white, I don't know exactly what) says somtimes I shouldent join a cheer for something/one because is for a 'white' thing. Here in America we are suposed to be a 'melting pot' of religious, ethnic, and moral belifes, that is what makes this country. So why does a person get put down for something can't control, makes them special, and enhances the country?

I know how you feel. I'm 1/2 african american,. and 1/2 european. I feel just the same way at school.

what happens to me, is that all the african american kids say that i sound like a "white girl" because i dont usually say "aint" and words like that. It's really annoying. But I got used to it.

I think 1 reason people treat biracial people different is because they think too much of the "average" family, like an all 1 race family. But really, its stupid to think that way.

Hope this helped a little.

Wow. I'm mixed with THREE races, and I never had people say or do stupid stuff like that. Maybe it's the area you live in or the people you know, but coming from a tri-racial person living in a diverse city, that's the kind of stuff we see on TV and laugh at, because it's ignorant and doesn't happen.

Oh, and America isn't supposed to be a "melting pot" where everything melts and blurs together, but a "patchwork quilt", where we all keep our unique cultures but still come together.

P.S. - Your best friend is "Puerto Rican", not "Porto Ricen".

Never let the rants of the ignorant influence you. There are many people of mixed race that are considered amongst the most beautiful - Mariah Carey, Derek Jeter, The Rock, Halle Berry, etc. If they shut out the negativity and made it, so can you! There's a lot of good websites out there with mixed race issues as topics. Cruise around and you'll find lots of reasons to be proud!

Wher I am, all the Biracial girls are always treated better than the regular Black girls just because they have "good hair" and skin. It makes me mad how the guys are around here always dissing the darked skinned girls. I'm mixed with Domincan and Black but most people can't tell because I look Black and I have dark skin.

You've got the right idea.

Biracial children are treated differently because biracial relationships are still seen as bad, so you are the result of something bad (according to society, anyway).

Girl - be who you are and be proud. You can't help it if the world is still filled with ignorant assholes!

Don't let others discourage you from the things you may want to achieve in life.

If people cannot accept you for who you are - **** 'em!

Biracial kids are treated badly because it seems that no one wants them to really be apart of who they are because they are not one pure race.
