Not a smoker, but was always around people who smoked. Now, I have asthma and finally have it well controlled. It is tough being asthmatic, so please if your going to smoke don't do it around little ones. Second hand smoke kills more people than actual smokers. My husband has to sometimes wake up and plug me to a machine and there has been 3 times where I almost did not make it. I can understand your urge as I share office with a smoker and can see what it can do to you if you don't have a smoke. I am not against smoking, but I am against people who smoke around kids who can not make the choice of being around smoking. We need to protect the ones we love and the future (our kids).

Started smoking when I joined the Air Force. They didn't have warnings out when I started so didn't think it was bad for my health. Stopped smoking after about 20 years. I am paying for the years that I smoked

I had my first cigarette the night before I met my dad for the first time. My friends and I were at The Seahorse Tavern in Halifax, Nova Scotia, shooting pool, dancing between the chairs, and generally blowing off steam. (I had a LOT of steam to remove... I was very nervous).
I had a smoke to see what it was like... yuck. That fall when I returned to university, I met a lot of people who smoked. When they'd offer me one, I'd smoke it. Seemed the polite thing to do. Eventually, I bought a pack so I could return the favour. I have been smoking on and off (on, right now) ever since. I am currently 34.

I've been smoking for 9-10 years.
How I started is really sad.
I ran xc, indoor track, and track & field. I was so much into running and my parents didnt care. They were smoking around me my whole high school career. when i graduated and went into the military I just naturally started smoking. I never figured I would, it was like I already had it in my system.

I do not typically smoke but when I do it is when I am drinking or when I am really stressed out about something in my personal life. This has been going on for about 10 years now.

No smoking in my family. I think it is gross... and I would not want any of my loved ones to smoke either. It is a bad habit.
