I'm involved in the Big Brother / Big Sister program and have been paired with a hispanic girl who's family is from mexico. I would like to know a little more about her culture and I wanted to know if there are any things that I might do that would offend them. It might be a silly question, but hey...couldn't hurt to ask.

It is a silly question. How hard is it just to be who you are? You are in the Big Brother/Big Sister program. It sounds like to me that you are a caring person so if you are really interested in Mexican Culture - get yourself a book or do some research on the web - better yet, have a talk with the family of the little girl you are involved with. What better way to get information than direct from the source.

Jessica, first... I resent all that crap from the onther individual who answered your question by saying that we mow lawns and make babies. Anyhow, if you're really interested in knowing more about our culture, check out some books, take a short trip to one of the cities on the border for a day or two. More importantly, when you where matched with your little sister, there should have been some similaritites between you and her so if that's not the case, you shouldn't have accepted the match. Contact the enrollment specialist for guidance... never hesitate to ask them for help b/c that's what they're there for.

they like spinner hub caps and picking oranges. They are avid lawn mowers and baby makers so I would introduce some of our culture. Such as condoms, an education, and legit documentation. I'm sure it will be a blast and a great learning experience!
