qualifying or labeling someone the best esp in music is not really possible because its rather subjective..however i have seen Rush 7 times...the first show wasway back in my stoner youth when they released Hemispheres...Neil is unreal on the skins...he can play polyrhythms within a song and synchopate them into fractal like movements that still blow my mind...he has a quiver he wears like an archer uses to hold his bows...only he stores extra drumsticks because if he breaks one during a song he instinctively snatches a new one never missing a beat...and if his skills as a drummer were questioned and said welll this other guy is better...he also writes most of the lyrics for the band and the content of his music is very cerebral

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
the oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light
Now theres no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw ... The Trees a song about the French Revolution

Thirty years ago, how the words would flow
With passion and precision,
But now his mind is dark and dulled
By sickness and indecision.

And he stares out the kitchen door
Where the sun will rise no more...

Some are born to move the world ---
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
The things wed like to be

Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you -- the blind who once could see ---
The bell tolls for thee...

this is prob my fav lyrics from him the song is Losing It and it talks about the dichotomy of the human spirit (is it better to have once had your vision and knowing what your missing when you become blind.... or is it sadder to have never seen at all?)

of direction no longer, you have drummers that are on his point or consistent with danger somewhat extra suitable technically mutually with Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, Mark Zonder of Fates warning then you definitely've all the severe drummers which Triple the technicality mutually with Flo Mouneir of Cryptopsy and Tim Yeung of Devine Heresy who's the fee drum champion who can hit 872 bass drum hits IN 60 Seconds, YEAH, 60 seconds no longer too many different steel drummers or rock drummers can try this no longer EVEN close. then you definitely've all the Jazz drummers that are staggering no would desire to assert names right here you wont be attentive to them and no person right here cares sufficient to look them up so i'm unlikely waste my time in short answer? NO he isn't the wonderful drummer

absolutely.

I wrote a paper about him in 11th grade and got an A. One of the best papers I ever wrote. It was about him as a lyricist, which I think is second only to his drumming skills.

The only other drummer I think comes close is Carl Palmer.
