I purchased fish at walmart,6 neons,6 ghost shrimp and they had tail rot.I didn't notice at first because I had never seen tail rot ,I notice the tails and thought someone was nippy after my fish started looking the same ,guppies .....other tetras .I reseached it ,treated it but still lost more than a dozen fish .
I went back to Walmart and they were still selling sick fish ,all there pumps work and flow through all there fish tanks ,circulates to all systems ,Raised lot's of hell to medicate and stop selling them ,but they didn't ,they know they have a problem but don't care.I called animal protection ,health dept,Local news trouble shooters,all to no avail,Ky. is one of 15 states that don't have law regulating the treatment and sale of pet store pets.when calling animal control for more phone # 's I was told they have the same trouble with there area walmart and have talked to them several times,this has to stop!What now?imagine how many tanks they have contaminated.

the next move may be to join a government lobby group. and try to get the laws in your town changed to help animal control fix the problem, find out who in your area is trying to stop the big department stores from selling fish, you could start aletter writting campaign to your Walmart store, make complaints to the store manager, district manager, and go up the management chain, any store that sells living things should have some form of regulation if they cannot ensure the health of the life they sell. but the truth is that the pet industry is regulated by the USDA. the same government industry which regulates the production of the food we eat, or by the industry itself.
Hope this helps
some animal rights groups like P.E.T.A, have resorted to terror like acts in the past, I do not recomend joining any group which advocates violence to further the cause. remember 9/11 the problem can be worked out through gaining attention but not through violence.

Some o my American fish friends have said the same thing. They avoid Walmart like the plague. Its a shame you found out the hard way and a shame the fish are suffering. Try writing to head office and call some out of state agencies for advice. Ask your local police dept about the picketing. Or just go in one day and anyone who comes along and looks at the fish, quietly explain whats happening and that will be very effective;

I live in Ca. and all of the wal-marts have the most sick looking fish I have ever seen. I bought some fish from Fish World here in town, I've got fish there for years, never a problem. Until... the fish I got were sick and in just 4 days ALL my fish were dead, I had a 150 gallon tank. I went back to the store and every tank in the place was empty. They gave me my money back and said that all their fish were infected from a shipment and died too. Sad because it put them out of business. I loved my fish like all my pets and am outraged nobody seems to care how they are treated. I agree, something should be done about it. Good luck. Sarah is right on!

That's why I never recommend buying fish from Walmart, because they are a huge department store, and they do not have someone who knows how to properly care for the fish they sell, or even pay constant attention to them. Many times, there are dead fish in the tanks, and it amazes me that people will still purchase fish from those tanks. I thought it was common sense, a rule of thumb, to not buy a fish from a tank that has dead fish in it. There's obviously an unknown cause behind those fish dying, and you could easily be bringing home a sick one.

Hmmm....the dangerous factor approximately this gorgeous query is that it calls for me to try to choose a favourite musician. And that's one hard undertaking. Mostly I like bands as an alternative than detailed musicians, in order that makes it difficult considering that I like them as a institution most commonly. I quite like Robert Plant...and Jimi Hendrix...and Jack White....and Chris Walla...and Bob Marley...that is so difficult it's making my head harm! Hmm. I feel I'm going to move with Jim Morrison despite the fact that, in honor of the Doors CD and large, tie-dyed wall placing of him that I purchased the previous day. So. Favorite Musician: Jim Morrison Favorite Song: Break On Through (To The Other Side) (Actually via the Doors, now not simply him, however something.) What I Would Do If He Moved Next Door To Me: Wow....that could be powerful. I could spend all of my time speaking to him or observing him or paying attention to Break On Through. Actually I do the final one always besides. I could arrange vicinity block events and *fail to remember* to ask anybody however him. Heh heh. I'd be a quite creepy neighbor.

Stop by FishGeeks as there are several groups that are organizing campaigns to make walmart and other mass vendors fix the problems with their fish departments.

i dont know what else you can do other than what you have done
i am glad that you did all of this. but people dont care because they themselves aren't suffering
people need to be aware that this is happening to innocent animals
you should join P.E.T.A.
it is a great organization for the unjust treatment of animals and they save them
