I am about to leave for the Navy on Jan 13. I am graduating early (in three days) and mom is taking it hard. She asked me to finish my year out and just stay at home until the summer. She is getting very sad. What should I do, I care about her feelings very much.

if you have decided for the navy from the beginning i'm sure you have set a goal and aim what you want to achieve in life for yourself. talk things over with your mom and share with her what's your plan, goal, aim, dreams, etc in life. make things clear for her to understand. if you have set certain things up to achieve, achieve it without any waste of time cause once time pass we will never be able to turn the clock back. if you have decided to go, it would not make much difference between jan and summer and when summer is due you will still have to leave and it will be the same episode that your mom will be sad. so make sure your mom understand what you want to excel and posses in life to get her blessings. and glad to know that you care much for your mom and i'm sure when you talk it out it will makes things 'lighter' although no parents would want to have their children leaving for all these. all the best

Go to the Navy. Best move you can make for yourself. Your mom will adjust. It's just like going away to college.

You sit your mother down and you tell her you love her but it comes a time when every bird must leave the nest and she raised you and now it's time for you to go on and be the man that she raised you to be. You tell her you will write her and call her but she has to let you grow up and be a man.

your mother is having separation anxiety and you shouldn't play into that.. just comfort her and then say your goodbyes for now, that's very wonderful for you to have this opportunity.. congrats and good luck :) :) :)
