I would suggest the Cannon x14 at Staples or Stamples.com, its about 145.00 and it has a 2.5 inch screen.

You can start out with a pack of 12x12 cardstock in assorted colors ( about 10-12 dollars), a "slab" of assorted scrapbook printed papers ( about 12-20 dollars for 180 sheets), 3 or 4 pair of scissors with assorted edges ( 2-3 dollars a pair ), some acid-free glue sticks ( about 3 dollars for a pack of 2 ) and a package of assorted color archival pens( about 8-10 dollars ). Anything else would be optional. Embellishments are nice but not absolutely essential and even then, you can make some of these yourself with the papers and scissors. These 5 essentials are all available at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Oriental Trading Company also has a whole catalog devoted to scrapbooking and their prices are very reasonable for when you are ready to start purchasing all the extras like brads, eyelets, die cuts, etc.

Go to Dollar or 99Cent stores! They have decent quality and gorgeous stuff at the ones I have been too and of course the prices are also VERY reasonable! You can even get all different sizes of books and refill pages themselves there! Good Luck! This is an excellent hobby and I am trying to get my stepdaughter who will be 12 on Thursday into this too, she likes it but cant' stick with things very long :-( Send me an email and I will give you her email address and you gals can chat about scrappin and whatever else tweenage gals talk about!! There are several yahoo groups that are all about scrappin'! (Actually I think there are hundreds so you should be able to find one that can help you out! If you want to know more about the groups send me an email about that too and I can tell you which ones I belong to and which ones I think you would enjoy....a lot of them do swaps which is tons of fun! Hope this helps! ericalynn1976@gmail.com

scrapbooking it is nice, but expensive, so before you decide that you want to invest that kind of time into it, you might try some memory book alternatives. Recently my sister-in-law bought a ton of scrapbooking stuff and then she never used it. Later she found iMemoryBook, a system that lets you put your memories and photos into a professional book, and she said that this met her needs a lot better. you might take a look, it is free to use until you want to print something.

The best place to find scrapbooking stuff is actually at dollar stores (at least in Canada)...they have everything from heacy card stock paper to stickers, ribbons, glue, scissors, punches and accessories - everything you will need to get started! But, make sure you get a cutting device - it will make your projects look better in the long run!
