I am still a windows lover but when crap happen like yours I am happy that i start learning linux.
Go to your add/remove program , and try to remove the latest updates. They will show as "hotfix"
If that does not work, save your datas(backup) and restore to the day before the updates were installed
Start/accessories/ system tools >restore
If all that does not work give a call to microsoft.
Good luck,
Joe.

confident, it has happened to me too. I even have abode windows xp on my pc, and a on the spot internet connection. the maximum recent 'secure practices replace' for abode windows did purely that - made my laptop so shelter i could no longer acces the internet in any respect. until i understand precisely why this replace has accomplished what it has accomplished, I even have uninstalled it and altered the settings for my computerized updates so as that until i instruct it to, my laptop won't installation any extra ones. for the main area microsoft has served me properly, yet those equipment defects are fairly favourite and there is in no way any clue as to what the devil is going on whilst they ensue. If linux OS's have been greater suited than they are, and allowed me to apply each and every of the courses i at the instant use effortlessly, then i could make the swap for stable, yet unfortuneately linux in all it;s guises nonetheless has a thank you to pass previously it may totally topple bill gates fromt the winner's podium.

If you work at an office. You should probably try and imitate the system updates/patch update/browser updates pattern your office follows...
Since those IT guys at work are PROs, then they know what updates (like the one you downloaded) are not stable or unreliable.
I wouldn't necessarily willy-nilly download everything coming down the pipe from vendors. I'd wait a little bit.

The solution, I hope, is to go to Help and Support and then System Restore. If these are REALLY critical updates, don't listen to what I'm saying. But go to System Restore, as I said, and go back to the date you installed the updates. Good luck!

If you check all the computer names in "network setup wizard" you might find a problem there. To get rid of the invalid thingy try uninstalling it, running REGEDIT and searching and deleting all things to do with office 2003 then reinstalling it, you may fix that issue. If they dont work then I'm all out of ideas.

the probem may be competition. critical updates seem to mess up some systems should they be switched on or off.does a machine decide or are you gonna.. me would go to control panel/add or remove check the list and remove the fixes for the last ten days .. but I know nothing.. but the problem is your system will ask you to put them back in . thanks to xp.
try and be independant.

Sounds like they related to Windows update. I have had similar quirky things go on since I have started using auto updates.
