As long as it is ok with you, do it. I don't see why not and I don't see why anyone would be bothered by it.

First, let me start off with that there are no laws in the US that prohibit Crossdressing (at least none I am aware of).
But there might be a dress code at the university that you are planning on attending that expressly prohibits it. If there is, you run the risk of being expelled from school.
Now if there is no such code, then you risk the possibility of being harassed by other students to the point of being physically assaulted or worse. The local town may be as bad, like a red neck area.
Of course the school that you are planning on attending openly accepts crossdressing as a way of life as well as the community that serves it.
So it all depends on you. You should find out the environment that you are planning on living in.

I am a 51 year old crossdresser. I have only come out in the past 10 years or so I wish I had done it years ago. It is a different climate now and I would encourage you to do it. I think the younger you do it the better also.

I think you need to specify what you mean by "ok." Do you mean will you be safe crossdressing at university? Or is it morally ok? Socially? Legally? I don't know. I see nothing wrong with it, but you have to be prepared to be hassled by lager louts and possibly others. And be careful walking alone at night. Other than that I see nothing wrong with it. It will weed out potential "friends" who are really only interested in superficials, which will make it easier to know who is a genuine friend.

If you are cross dressing because you feel a need to cross dress, then yes people will think there is something wrong with you. There probably really is something wrong. Society generally believes that it is healthy for boys to want to be boys and for girls to want to be girls. When a boy dresses up to look like a girl then you have to wonder..
When a compulsive cross dresser wears women's clothes he gets a sensation of well-being, sexual gratification, pleasure and self-identity. Where does this come from. Well, his brain is producing a series of neurotransmitters that giving his sensation of a "high". Yes, this is the same response as in other addictions. If he tries to stop, he cannot. If he gives in to the addiction he will just try harder and harder to achieve a better "high". He will create a ultra-feminine alter-ego. He will give her a name. He will eventually fall in love with his alter-ego. When he's in his forties, he will have a crisis where he will consider taking greater risks with his cross dressing. Finally he will suffer bouts of depression and emptiness.
You've got to get control over your cross dressing, or it will get control over you.

i think that it is ok. there are alot of universitys out there that support the growing transgendered, and transexual community. They offer unisex bathrooms, and locker rooms where you can change or use the bathroom without the fear of harrasment. Check out some of the cross dressing and TG forums and support groups to learn which colleges affer this. But be prepared for ridicule from some of the other guys on the campus.
good luck

College is a very diverse place. There's a lot of groups there to make friends with. You should be able to do it at college without very many problems.

do it outside of school hours when you are at the campus pub, or hanging out with friends,
but if you do it in class, then you can expect to be negatively judged.. it's sad, but the reality of this world is that you have to comfort to society norms, at least in terms of attire, in places of business or education.
