I love the aspect of building my civilization, finding food, gathering resources, and researching technology, but I'm not too crazy about the fighting part. Are there any games like this without the wars.

I like Zeus: Master of Olympus as well as it's Expansion Poseidon. Very Minimal fighting in those 2 games. Pharaoh and It's expansion Cleopatra are both fun. Also The newest one I am sure of is called Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. These games are all more on development than fighting, though there is some fighting it is seldom terribly disrupting.

My brother has Caesar III and Pharaoh. They're really good with the city-building part and they have hardly any fighting, but there's nothing about research and progress which is my favorite. We also have Civilization III. You can fight wars in Civ III, but you don't have to--there are other ways to win. It does feature building your civilization and researching new technology--in fact, it spans all of known human history, instead of just a few centuries like AoE.

the two best possible civilization building games u can buy are Age of Empires and Civilization..
Medivel 2(total war) is a great game as well and its probably the best i think , but there are battles that u have to go through which is great feature but u still can simulate them.
