oh i've been there girl! all my life i had them and thought it was normal! you may only be 13 but a trip to the gynecologist is in order, if your parents balk at the idea just keep at them about it. you could just be one of the unlucky ones to have heavy periods, or it could be something going on and the earlier you find out the better off you'll be. 13 is young to be on birth control pills but to help with the monthly woes, its more of a medicine than anything. either way, the doctor is where you need to go.

I don't know of any natural way of shortening your period either.. but I got on birth control and I've only been on it for about 6 months now..and i really don't even have a period. I mean.. its lasts like 1- 2 days.. the first days is actual bleeding very lightly though.. and the next days is just spotting.. The longest I've had a period since on this birth control called Ovcon is 4 days.. and that's start to total completely gone by thee 4th day.... Its wonderful. I don't have any other side effects.. that I've noticed. ... I was worried that I would gain weight because I've always been worried about my weight but it didnt cause that...

unfortunately there are no natural ways to lighten your period. i know you said you are not interested in birth control yet but it is a good way to shorten them. plenty of girls (including me) started at a young age just so they could get a short, regular period. and a plus is that when you do become sexually active your body will have already had plenty of time to adjust to the pill.

I'm 13 and iv found out that taking like warm instead of hot showers will lighten it because hotter water makes heavier flow. Also taken baths it may help with the flow. Heating pads (the electric kind) will help with cramps and period pains.

i'm sorry but for shorter lighter periods you will have to go on the pill..... something like loestrin that gives you a period of about 3 days.....

i'm sorry but some women just have heavy long periods.....and it sounds like you are one of them.....
