Several weeks back I sent the ACLU a request for assistance, after several second requests I received a form letter denial of assistance. Last night at approximately 7PM EST, I sent the ACLU an e-mail saying I was an Irish immigrant trying to get a driver's license, this afternoon at approximately 3:30PM EST, I received a detailed response for assistance. Apparently the ACLU only cares about you if you are an illegal immigrant, a flag burner, or someone who doesn't like to see a Christmas tree at the mall. My question: Who actually supports the ACLU and why??

Hmmm.... since you didn't say what your "problem" is perhaps you were setting the ACLU to fail??
And from your tone you don't really care about a real discourse on this subject, more likely you are perhaps just feeling low that Poor Ol' Dummy Bush and his gay-hating clowns, I mean friends, are not doing so well in their efforts in turning America into a new Fascist Dictatorship.
Oh well, keep bashing things if it makes you feel better.
P.S.- I am not an ACLU lover, but some things they do do make sense, while a lot of their fights are things I would not fight over, for example, when an uptight mom gets her panties in a twist over Harry Potter in schools and libraries everyone should be fighting her in court to keep her from pushing her private agenda of censorship

The ACLU is supported by a bunch of rich boys and girls who never had to work an honest day in their lives. It's also supported by their "clients", like the convicted pedophile who sues because he isn't allowed within a hundred yards of a family park.

You: "How can all people preserve people who're needless to say in charge?" I: "Have they been convicted yet?" the easy certainty is that somebody has to preserve the mean, the grotesque and the unpopular - whether they don't have the money to hire a solid criminal expert - or the full equipment breaks down. evaluate ACLU a team of channel diggers who ought to shelter a factor of the sewer equipment. Their job is grimy and it stinks, yet with out persons like which you would be able to finally end up with human waste products floating on the streets.

It's utterly hilarious that you think the ACLU has time to deal with your driver's license issue, and that the fact that they turned you down somehow shows them to be an evil organization. This would be like me calling the white house because my next door neighbor was playing his stereo too loud, and then getting ticked off at the president when he refused to have him arrested.

Sally, support for the ACLU comes from any Liberal that you encounter. If they can't get their Liberal points passed into law, to court we go. Real name of ACLU should be: A Cut Lower than Urine. Any doubts, just check out some of the people they defend.

Free speech is crucial to the survival of democracy. Without it, government reigns unchallenged and humanity drifts from the pursuit of truth. That is why the ACLU defends the free expression of ideas, even those that are unpopular or offensive.

Applying for a driver's license doesn't seem like a constitutional issue to me.
Driving is a privilege and not a right.

You have the ACLU to thank for defending religious liberty, separation of church and state, freedom of speech, reproductive rights, and immigrants' rights.
I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience. They do a lot of good in my opinion, but they are far from perfect.
