My one year old hums loudly when he's falling asleep or waking up. He sort of exhales musically, for up to an hour. He has done this just about all of his life. My pediatrician said there's nothing wrong, but didn't say it was normal. Anyone else have a baby that does this?

lots of babies make noises as they sleep. i used to have a sigh that lingered, like "ah-eh...eh..ah...ah....o..." while i slept, my mom used to tell me, years before i started to talk out loud (at 6!)

my sisters all sounded like they were sighing while they were falling asleep, and my brother sings. one of my goddaughters sounds like she's talking, but it's not actually words, it's this cute babble, and it's funny cause if you talk to her while she is doing it, it will seem like she's answering you

My mom told me I did this as a baby, 33 years old now, my husband tells me I STILL do it, my doctor said it's some sort of comforting thing. Just like some babies suck there thumb, or play with a blanket.

Probably not normal, but nothing to worry about, either. My kids both whistled in their cribs and then promptly forgot how to whistle...

Humming sounds like he's comfy (and it's also adorable), so I'd smile, listen to the monitor, and tell the story over and over again when he's 13 and easily embarrassed. :)

Think of it as a kitten purring and rest well knowing you have made him comfy and happy! All baby make noises, it is something u will remeber years to come as just one of those little things he did that made you smile, enjoy him!!!

Go with the pediatrician. "Nothing wrong" means "normal" to them. My son and my nieces have all laughed in their sleep.

My daughter used to sound like a little baby kitten or puppy when she would sleep.
