I would say that the main connection between the two is the concept of self-determination. A freedom-minded people will use the same principles in governing itself as the individual would use to govern his own life. The concept of free enterprise, capitalism being one of the main motivators, is a driving force for an individual in a free society.

The democracy of the USA is a representative democracy, in which the people govern, but only indirectly. Those we elect are responsible for direct governance, given the trust of the people. If that trust is violated or betrayed in any way, the democratic machine will facilitate the voting out of that official in the following election cycle.

Democracy is a about Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. We are in a system where when you keep taking from the producers and give to the non-producers, if you keep doing that long enough pretty soon there are more non-producers than producers, and you kill the exact engine that got us where we're at. Most people don't understand the concept of Capitalism.
Here is what happens when someone is wealthy. By default because of the system of capitalism, you will help them through taxes by the government, you can help in the economy, if you buy a new luxury car, the car salesman makes a commission, the salesman buys new shoes, the person who owns the shoe store makes a percentage off of the shoes bought, the salesman who sold him the shoes makes a percentage, and the person who manufactured the shoes makes some money and all because you spent some money buying an automobile. When you succeed you lift people up by default. Poor people can not help poor people. Capitalism allows the rich to help the poor as it is now. Why is it that the television, telephone, telegraph, the lightbulb, the motion picture, the airplane, the internet, the global positioning system. Why is it the more inventions, books, sypmphonies, more plays have come from the U.S. than the rest of the world combined. Why is that? Because we are the freest. And we are the freest because we recognize the uniqueness of the individual.

Thomas Jefferson said: "Freedom is having choices."
The greater the Government the greater the poverty. In North Korea 2.5 million have starved over the last 5 years. That is called total socialism. South Korea has the 12 largest GDP in the world. Whats the difference? Free enterprise.
When politicians come to you and tell you they will do something for you, you should ask where are you going to get the money from? If it is from the government? Where does the government get money? They do not produce anything. They get their money from you and taxes.
When you look at the taxes in downtown Detroit and start driving north as the neighborhoods start getting better and you will find out the tax rates are less.
The 2nd richest spot in the world is Europe. People on welfare in America are more likely to have a telephone, tv, air conditioning, an automobile, more square footage space, more meat. This is what free enterprise and capitalism has done for the United States.

1. Capitalism is a form of government. It is not democratic, but can be forced to become so, primarily from group effort that will also force the government to come in as mediator.

2. Liberals are agents of the Right Wing. If you mean by Liberal a government that enforces a bill of rights, that's not enough unless the people have the most power, which only happens if they have a direct vote on the issues and the Supreme Court is abolished. Any other system is Snob Rule by those who did not earn their positions and prestige. Inheritance must be abolished.

Capitalism, if taken as a dictatorship by investors, was a successful attempt by the spoiled and illegitimate aristocracy to take over the industrial and trade revolution. The employees create the value of the investment; the rich are the hired help who brainwash men into becoming sheep.
