All that happened is some blood leaked into the skin. It's a bruise and you can treat it like any other bruise as long as it isn't like an egg under the skin.
You can use ice or heat on it if it makes it feel better.
Otherwise, just leave it alone. During the healing process, it may change colors like any other bruise.
It's not an allergic reaction and the nurse didn't do anything wrong, it just happens sometimes.

You're ok. The nurse that drew your blood was really bad!!! In the process of drawing your blood, your vein broke, leaking blood under the skin .... thus the bruise. Evidently it bled for quite some time for you to get that large bruise, probably because, not thinking anything of it, you worked the arm pretty hard and it allowed it to bleed longer before it clotted. Also, the lump you feel is indeed a clot. It will slowly become absorbed by your system, but may take a few weeks total. Just don't rub it, just try and forget you have it. Try not to go to that nurse again. I've drawn blood on hundreds with little to no bruising. I'm sorry you've had this experience. I am an RN

RE:
Blood drawn, now giant bruise?
I had some blood drawn on Friday morning and now there's a big black bruise the size of a very large egg (not a lump, just black surface that size.) It seems to be growing and is tender. Am I highly sensitive or did the nurse do something?

The nurse should have pressed on the spot where she'd taken the blood, or asked you to. This prevents a bruise occurring. What you have is normal, although not very nice to look at. This happened to me a few weeks ago, and the nurse blamed me for not pressing hard enough !

Some times it is the person who takes the blood or sometimes it just happens.
When ever you have blood taken, do not lift or carry anything for at least an hour or so. Not even your pocketbook.Put that on the other arm.
It should start to change color from black to purple and then yellow as it heals. You'll be fine soon.

Either there wasn't enough pressure applied or it wasnt applied long enough. Next time you get blood drawn leave the pressure bandage on at least an hour if you don't already do so.

seems pretty large to me. You should call your doctors office or whomever did the blood draw and let them know about it. Could be that something is wrong or that maybe you are just sensitive but at least you'll get some peace of mind.

It sounds like just a bruise from the vein continuing to hemorrhage after the needle was taken out. It could be that the nurse that drew the blood inserted the needle through the vein initially and it hemorrhaged from the distal hole.

It's nothing to worry about. It's just a bruise caused by a not very careful person doing a sloppy job. It won't hurt you, but if you felt like pointing it out to the person who drew your blood, you could because it is a result of careless blood-drawing.
