I mean I have used the word on several occasions thinking that I was correct. I never looked it up in the dictionary because I knew I was using it right and I just knew that I knew its definition! You know what I mean? Are there any words that you use that really arent words at all?

Okay folks...I know that conversate is not a word. I want to know what words other people use that are not proper.

One of my favorites (and used by many educated people) is the incorrect form of orient. I attended an orientation. I most certainly did get "orientated". I orient myself in the mall. I do not orientate myself.

I believe the correct word is converse. There are a whole lot of words that I use and wonder where they came from.

Conversate is not a word I have ever seen. Try using a spell check.
Similar words are: converse, converses, conversed, conversant, conversation..........

It is actually in Merriam-Webster (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/conversate) as slang, BUT IT IS NOT PROPER ENGLISH. I think using it in many settings will make you sound ignorant (uneducated).

Try: converse (v.)
Try: conversation (n.)
