okay the next time telemarketers call you tell them the person they want to speak to isnt there at the moment and that youll go and get them.
then...
put the phone on mute and do what you were doing before untill you hear the 'dead' tone on your phone indicating they hung up...
hhahhahahhahahhahhahahaha.... yea i think it does some stuff to make them stop but it sure makes that revenge monster feel better

I dumped my last bank for this "customer service" after they told me they were just trying to get me in touch with other valued businesses. What a load of crude.

i had the same problem!!!
so i marched to tha bank...told the stupid @ssholes to quit givin my number out...so they STOPPED!!
no more stupid, annoyin and time-wasting calls from telemarketers and other sales companies!

put your number on the do not call list and the ones that still call tell them to **** off.
