The Holocaust. I would go back in time and do what it took to prevent the Holocaust and the ridiculous expansionist policies of Germany and Japan.

The funny thing is, that would probably actually hurt the US today, since WWII was the catalyst to our current economic success.

911 was terrible, but still a minor blip compared to so many other man-made catastrophes. (Look at the millions of people dying of AIDS and starvation world-wide.) The holocaust was awful and millions died, and there is still genocide going on in various parts of the world and most people are totally clueless. Look at WWI and WWII. This would be an extremely hard one to chose, because so much of what has happened goes back even farther back in time, not just one incident.

Prevent pilgrims from landing on plymoth rock, I mean if you only have one shot, might as well make it hit a few targets, create a ripple effect.
