Battery wouldn't hold a charge. It was a couple of years old, so I replaced it. Several days later, new battery failed. So I had the alternator rebuilt and the battery charged. Still not charging. And now, the car won't turn off after I disengage the ignition, and I have to unplug the alternator (car continues to run after pulling battery cables). Please help.

Thanks for the quick answers. Would the ignition switch also explain why my battery isn't charging?

I would think there are issues with your ignition switch.when the key is in the off possition and the key removed, that engine ought to shut down. un plugging the altornator under load will blow the field.you are lucky the thing still works when disconnected from battery. that showes your alt, is still working... your coil, alt, starterand some times radio all are connected through the ignition switch.they become live when switch is on, and ought to shut off when key is out of it
