Christmas isn't the only holiday in December. I'm a Christian and I love Christmas for its' real meaning..but there is another big holiday in December too called Hannaukah. Lots and lots of Jewish folks that are my neighbors, friends and that I work with - if the company has a party would it be right to call it a Christmas party?...absolutely NOT. Why? because it's NOT..it's a party to celebrate the "holidayS" that many people celebrate in December...not JUST Christians. Christians who behave like that are anything but real Christians. My Jewish friends wish me a Merry Christmas out of respect for my holiday and I wish my Jewish friends a Happy Hannuakah out of respect for their holiday...and those that don't celebrate either one and just buy and open gifts and that's all they have?..then sadly, yes...it's just X-mas for them. Christians who are pushy and unrespectful of others beliefs and others religious holidays in December and want to not say "Happy Holidays" so that all God's people can be included in parties and such are the worst possible example of (so-called) Christians anyway...and they will never be an example of Christ so that those that only celebrate X'mas might be interested in what CHRISTmas is all about...not by the example of those making such a point out of it. Very sad how disrespectful and very UNChristlike many Christians have become...and they don't even see it.

I actually am more put off by Happy Holidays, but I used to feel the same way about Xmas, until my husband (a Lutheran pastor) explained to me that the X in Greek is Chai - the first letter of Christ. X was originally used in a similar way the the <>< (fish) symbol: to identify Christians to each other during the Roman persecutions. So, smile when you see this - and know that in their ignorance, the users are actually perpetuating the Christ among us - Emmanuel!!! Have a wonderful Christmas!!!!

I can't believe it when I hear people say they hate it when someone wishes them a Happy Holidays. You are Christian, okay, but lots of people aren't. What's wrong with wishing you a general Happy Holidays so that they include you whatever religion you are? If you were Jewish, you probably wouldn't like it if everyone wished you a Merry Christmas would you? It just seems so polite to me...Happy Holidays. How can you possibly be offended by this? It boggles my mind.
By the way, I do celebrate Christmas, and I'm not especially religious. To me, it's a time of good will, good cheer, and charity...what's wrong with that?

It is a shame you feel that way, by doing so you are denying Jesus, yes, to you he does not exist.. And you are denying the history of His church. Are you really a Christian? How can you call yourself one, and not know the history of your own religion? Even John Tesh, on his Sunday morning show, explained what the X meant, and thought it was OK to use it.
Look it up, there have been several discussions here, and plenty of places to look it up at.
And while you are at it, look up the origin of the word "holiday" It MEANS HOLY DAY!!!!!! HOLY Day!!!!!! So you deny Jesus, and deny Christmas is a holy day? Give me your mother and your preacher's phone number, I want to call them and let them know about your public denial of HIM. .I think you will have some funeral plans to make, because they are going to both keel over dead when they hear your denial of your Savior and his birth, and his church.. Someone else denied Jesus, do you know who? Did it three times? Do you know enough about your religion to know this?
You can delete this as soon as you read this, but I can not abide ignorance.
I know this because I am a Christian, not 'cuz'. Have enough respect for your Savior to use accurate spelling when you use his name.

I think merry xmas is just a lazy way to write it on a card. And yes it does take away from the meaning.
