End of year exams are final and students are meant to be studying for them at home.Middle school students rarely do any work at the end of the year which seems to me a valuable waste of learning time at school. The teachers just want to slack off too so they can prepare for reports and the next year. The system in my opinion needs reviewing. For example at one high school for English all they do is watch videos not educational ones either.

Excellent Question. In the Cartersville school system (GA) it is because for the High School they plain 1/2 days on the day of finals. Those are the only days that they get out early. Unlike the middle schools who get more teacher work days during the year.

at least for round rock Texas schools it is because the high schools don't have any early release days throughout the year except for exams, and middle schools have early release days throughout the year.
