Did you ever notice that if you get something hot enough it will eventually start to glow? Back in the early 1900's, scientists were trying to predict what color something would glow when it was heated to a given temperature. It was discovered that all objects that have temperature emit some kind of electromagnetic radiation. All objects also reflect electromagnetic radiation. A black body is just an object that doesn't reflect any radiation. All the radiation coming off of the object is due to its temperature. So a black body is just one of those physics idealizations that help us understand nature better...like a frictionless surface, or massless string. Interestingly enough, black bodies aren't really black, they just don't reflect light...if I remember correctly the sun behaves like a black body.
