Fever is usually caused by the body fighting an infection. The fever will go away when the body has fought the infection and won. Even if you take any type of medication, it wil not cure the fever, it will only relieve it. The best thing you can do is rest, drink plenty of water and let the fever run its course. If the fever gets too high, usually above 102 in an adult, you may have to go and see the doctor, that means the infection is winning and your body is having a tough time fighting it.

Causes: Defense against virus or bacteria; Trauma; or Decomposition of morbid matter.
If fever gets too high, use a diaphoretic like Yarrow, Ginger, Peppermint or Elderflower (made into tea) to induce perspiration & aid elimination of toxins.
Many contagious diseases are most apt to be spread when there is fever. Best to stay in bed & sponge patient with vinegar water to relieve the achiness. Lots of vitamin C-rich drinks.

A fever is not a bad thing- It is caused when your body is fighting bacteria or a virus. The best thing is to let a fever run its coarse unless it gets too high (104ish)- Then medication is warranted to avoid seizures and other ills. The best you can do for a regular fever is lots of rest and fluids. Dress comfortably and maybe use cold compresses.

Fever is not caused directly from infection, but rather your body is reacting to your immune system's bio-chemical communicator called interferon. Which means that it is working properly and that's a good thing, but it can make you feel kinda miserable. You should feel free treat it with aspirin or white willow bark in order to feel more comfortable. Even when your temperature is lowered, the messengers are still being heard - just not making you feel quite so bad. I also like to sweat it out a bit too w/ a warm bath while sipping a hot cup of ginger tea and take it easy . . .

Fever is one of the ways your body fights infection. You don't want to knock it down unless it's high enough to cause brain damage {104-106F in adults, 101-103F in children}, or it's keeping you from getting enough rest. Feverfew is a natural supplement that's used to treat fever. A cool {not cold except for initially treating a very high fever} bath or shower is probably your best home remedy, as well as cool cloths applied to the forehead/back of neck.

Fever IS the remedy. Fever is the body trying to kill off a bacterial infection. The best thing you can do to help it, and get rid of it faster, is to keep yourself very warm and eat healthy...my favorite is a wool blanket, chicken noodle soup, and sprite.

Everyone is pretty right on here. Except you need a temp of 106-108 to cause brain damage in a child. They can take a much higher temp than an adult can.
