They are not.
The America's team title was started by Tex Schramm, the Cowboys General Manager from 1960 until 1989(he left the posistion when Jerry Jones bought the team). Schramm used the title for an NFL Films year in review show during the 1970's, and Schramm promoted the America's Team title relentlessly.
Dallas was an excellent team in the 20 year period from 1966 through 1985 making the playoffs every year, except for 1974 and 1984, getting to 5 Super Bowls, and winning two of them. They played exciting football and had colorful players, yet they operated like a cold efficent corporation. They often were the featured team on the late game NFC tv coverage.
The Cowboys also used the America's Team identity to set themselves as the "good" team.(the Raiders are cast as the "bad" team).

No, they're not.
Sorry to all of the idiots out there who think they are, or that some other team is, but there is no America's Team. There are 32 teams in the NFL, all of which are based in the US, and all have fans who are by and large Americans (though the Bills, Lions, and Seahawks probably have some Canadian fans due to being on the border, as well as San Diego with the Mexicans).

They have the most widespread fan base because of all the idiots in the early-middle 90s that hopped on the bandwagon....they were America's team then, no longer.
The Saints are the new America's team

Don't forget that the reason they built the stadium with a hole in the roof was so that God can watch His favorite team. Oh, yeah!

Absolutely - If you don't like them you've got to be like Canadian or something else.
Plus, the hole in Texas Stadium is because God likes to watch his team play.
