The whole point to these hot-button issues is to sucker in votes from the ignorant, gullible, and bigotted.

Once they get into office on those issues, Republicans can do what the really want, which is to create an empire, let business do whatever it wants, and destroy the middle-class here at home.

Of course they are not. However, it gives the simple minded something to focus on. Since these are mostly vague, emotionally based political issues, they do not require any thinking. This especially suits the aptitude of conservative Christians – who do not even know (or care) where Afghanistan and Iraq are, anyway.

Have you ever seen a flag burned? Do you know the last time a flag was burned. I don't, and I don't know anyone who does. There just does not seem to be a whole lot of flag-burning going on. Besides, ultimately, it is just a piece of cloth (or metal, plastic, etc.,).

And, what good is a symbol if it does not mean anything to anyone? You should be happy that some people consider the flag worthy of being burned to make a political statement. Think how much worse you would feel if no one even cared enough to think the flag was worth burning.

Flag burning-this is a respect issue. You will find that many of the flag burners are anti-war hippies. They are the ones out there protesting at military hospitals. They undermine our public relations on the war.

Any tax cuts keep jobs in America. China has been taking manufacturing jobs for years because it is too expensive to have them here. China finances our enemies. Iran being one of them. If Iran had no support or oil money, they are useless.

Gay marriage-we must defend morality in this country. Marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. Every time gay marriage is on the ballot it is defeated. It has happened in 24 states. By allowing activist judges force gay marriage or civil unions, they can get away with giving Geneva Convention rights to terrorists, as they have. There are many other examples of interference in fighting this war.

No answer on abortion.

Terrorism is not an enemy, it is a tactic, just like saturation bombing, amphibious assault and ambush. How do you wage war on a tactic?

As for the terrorists, the question should be, why have they attacked us? Our politicians tell us that they hate us because of our freedoms. Well they must like us better now, since we are loosing our freedoms daily on the "War on Terrorism".

I think the reason the terrorists attacked us is because our foreign policy is to constantly become involved in every fight that our politicians tell us is "in our interest". Well I say that it is not in our interest to become entangled in foreign wars. When you do, one or more of the factions is going to attack you. What happened when we are attacked? We are told that to protect us from terrorism, we have to give up some of our freedoms.

Are you ready to give up your freedoms? I'm not. I am not ready to give up freedom for the promise of security.

Rather, I want to see a return to the policy of avoiding foreign entanglements. We can trade with other countries, our people can interact, but we need to keep your government out of the affairs of other nations.

They aren't. What does any of that have to do with terrorism? They are simply other, less time-critical, issues that we will continue to deal with. Would you explain how these issues got connected to terrorism in add'l details? Perhaps I'm missing the obvious here (wouldn't be the first time), but has someone of import tried to make this strange connection?

There are more things in life than the war on terror. It may be the most important thing, but the other things need to be addressed as well.

they are emotional issues that are intended to keep the current administration in power. So, the terrific job that Bush is doing fighting the war on terror may now 'stay the course'.
