7 answers

y=1/4x + 10
3x-2y=0

substitute the first eq into the second:
3x-2(1/4x + 10) =0
3x -x/2 -20=0
5x/2 = 20
x= 20(2)/5 =8 .

and y=8/4 +10 = 12 .

y=1/4x + 10
3x-2y=0 substitute
3x-2(x/4+10)=0 distribute -2
3x-x/2-5=0 add 5 to each side & combine like terms
2.5x=5 divide by 2.5
x=2
y=2/4+10
y=10.5
(2, 10.5)

y = 1/4x + 10
3x - 2y = 0
3x - 2(1/4x + 10) = 0
3x - 1/2x - 20 = 0
5/2x = 20
5x = 40
x = 8

24 - 2y = 0
y = 12

x = 8, y = 12

if y = 1/4x + 10

then

y - 10 = 1/4x

and

4y - 40 = x

rewritten

x = 4y - 40

so...

3x - 2y = 0

substitute (4y - 40) for x and we get...

3(4y - 40) - 2y = 0

equals

12y - 2y - 120 = 0

and then

10y = 120

so

y = 12

resubstituting y in and solve for x

12 = 1/4x +10

so

2 = 1/4x

so

x = 8

double checking...

3x - 2y = 0

equals

3(8) - 2 (12) = 0

and 24 - 24 = 0

that's the correct answer

x=8
y=12

Extract y from 2nd equation: y=3x/2; now 3x/2 = 1/4x +10 or 6xx = 1 + 40x or
6xx-40x-1=0, hence x = (20+s*sqrt(400+6))/6 = (20+s*20.14944)/6, s=-1 or s=+1;
thus x1=6.691574, x2=-0.024907
and y1=3x1/2=10.03736, y2=3x2/2=-0.03736;
