Well, it may be that you don't think it's a 'love', but more of something else, and just a word that is overused. You may have to think to yourself deeply, and sort this out yourself. Perhaps it's a fear of 'love', or closeness. Understand that love is just a deep-rooted bond, and wanting to be friends, or perhaps closer. Try to understand that said person is only feeling close to you because they either respect a certain aspect of you, or something about you is something they admire. Try finding out why, first, before feeling 'irritated'.

Thinking and feeling irritated and/or angry comes from inner suffering.
An Excellent book to read and practice is
"Working with Anger" BY: Thubten Chodron.
It helped me alot when I thought and felt irritated and angry, when someone tried to demonstrate love toward me. I was easily irritated and angered because I did not want to be loved. I, through reading this book, realized it stemmed from inner suffering, and now I am not easily irritated or angered, and I receive love, and have many wholesome relationships, especially with my spouse and 2 children.
On Amazon.com a person can buy this book, for half the cost that Barnes & Noble, or any other book stores sell it for.
The book is honestly Most Excellent. Even for those who only want to help another.
Be kind to yourself. Be Patient with yourself, and always forgive yourself for any mistakes you make (or have made in the past).
Love yourself, and have self-respect always.
Happy Holidays to you and your family, and friends.

tough question... I try to believe that love is not what some one feels about you. It is how that love makes you feel about yourself. When some one asks me how to tell if their BF/GF loves them I ask how do they feel about them selves. Are they improved by this love?
