I agree, with the other two answers. Horses are a "luxury item". You don't buy a cheap one, you try to get a decent on for a decent price. If you don't even know where are riding stable near you is, then you shouldn't need a horse yet. No everyone can own a horse. I HIGHLY suggest lessons, and barn work FIRST. I know it is hard to hear, but just think about delayed gratification.

You may not be ready or responsible enough to own a horse if all you want is a "cheap one". All horses cost money. If you find a "cheap" one, you may have to spend a lot in vet bills. Or to have someone train it because the "cheap" horse bucks everyone off, is untrained, or has never been disciplined. The price of a horse is nothing compared to what you will pay in a year. I bought my mare as a 4 month old for $1500. With JUST boarding at a stable, farrier, and worming, it costs roughly $4000 a year, providing that nothing goes wrong. I do all of the training myself, but I have been working with horses since I was 10. She does have an eye tumor now, which will cost me about $1000 when it is all done. I am a college student, so money does not come easy, but please consider the extra finances before wanting a horse. I volunteer at a vet office, and it is horrible to see vets called out too late because the owner did not see the need to call out a vet asap for a wound- wanted to see if an eye wound would heal on it's own, and then wanted to put the horse down because of the cost of the surgery to remove the infected eye and because the horse would be marred with only one eye. The vet refused to put the mare down. It is another example of someone who wanted a "cheap" horse, but did not want to pay any of the costs.

I don't think your ready to buy a horse. You should read some more information. If you family does'nt own horses or have any experiance you should wait a while. I fist suggest do some reading and take some riding lesson. Because what's the point of getting a horse if you don't know how to ride it?If you buy a cheap horse it might not be healthy and could die or it could be old.so if you buy a cheap horse the food, saddle, arena, vet bill, horse shoes,tools,ect... will cost the same if you get a cheap or expensive. It's better if you get a bit more expensive.
