if you deserve a cellphone, it would be one that enables you to call 3 numbers, home, mom, and dad. Children aren't responsible enough to have a cellphone. Any calls you need to make can be made at home for even cheaper than a family plan...free! Definately just for emergency or contacting family for some reason, not for chatting for hrs on end to friends. Im sure there is no reason you want one other than to look cool because you have a phone.

If you can get on her plan, I'm not sure why she wouldn't want you to have one. I have 4 kids and they all have them so that we could get rid of the house phone. That alone was a big savings. We have 6 phones on one plan and it works out great.
I am able to reach my kids at most times. We have unlimited text messaging too and that makes it even better.
They do pay their share though. Maybe you could ask your mom is she would consider it if you paid your share.
My kids each pay about $20 / month.
Good luck.

I think its a lousy idea. Cellphones are just another way of taking up your time and achieving almost nothing. You can talk to your friends at school or on the land line or IM them. A cell phone is nothing more than an EXPENSIVE status symbol. The problem with cellphones is the expense of ring tones, games, downloads, and texting. The base price does NOT include all of this stuff. My daughters cell phone bill that SHE was paying was between $ 150-200+ a MONTH. Now you have a better picture of why she says no. I vote with her.

im 13 and have a cellphone i got it for christmas- all i said that i wanted it because they were awsome

it can go both ways... dont want one just b/c all your friends have one... when you get it, your not even gonna think of it as a big deal anymore... but to have one, just to call all your friends on, and have it to show off or w/e is a bad idea... your parents are probably thinking that is what you are going to do, along with running the bill up

but it is good to use it, if say you go out to the mall and places alot. just so you can get in touch with our parents if you need to. or in emergencies.... just about a month ago i was walking on this road to go to kmart, and some scary guy said "hey! get in the car i'll take you home!"... im 16, and im dead serious he scared the hell out of me, and i said no. i was holding my cell phone in my hand praying to god he wasnt one of those kidnapper rapist people lol.... im so happy i had my phone with me.... those types of situations are great to have a cell phone.

just convince your parents you are mature enough to have one, and point out all the posotives of having one. get lost in a store or something on purpose lol, maybeeeeee that will help a little??

good luck

I didn't get mine till the 10th grade don't feel bad. Imagine being around when your parents were your age when they didn't have many of the luxuries we have then get back to me
