The abuse was bad enough but the inaction or half assed action by the church following the allegations is what caused me to leave the church. Abuse of children is not something that needs to be negotiated or discussed and if the church does not do what it can to protect children, I don't need to be in it. I call myself a Catholic but I also always add that I do not go to the Catholic church anymore. I love the religion, do not love the humans that are running it.

I attend church maybe 1 or 2xs a month. I know that not all priests are abusers and I hate that because of some sick "priests" then people make fun of our religion. That is the way the world is so there nothing much we can do just to keep having faith. I have to admit that I hate how some people are forgiven too easily. (sexual predators/murders) I believe that even if they truly repent; they shouldn't be forgiven. I do like how the people/priests at my church are not afraid to talk about it.

I go to Mass EVERY Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation and I am very active in the faith formation ministry at my parish.

The child abuse scandal makes me angry, disappointed, ashamed, embarrassed, sad, and disgusted.

On the other hand, it has not shaken my faith or has made me think twice about leaving the Cathgolic Church because the sexual abuse scandal does not have any effect on the doctrine and the teachings of the Catholic Church. It is still a very holy place because the head of the Church is Jesus Christ, who is the Holy One.

I'm Catholic and I think it's sad that some of the priests are doing such terrible things. It is ruining the reputation of the entire church. I most definitely condem their actions and believe that the catholic people must do everything possible to ensure that this kind of thing is prevented from happening again. I also think that catholic priests should be allowed to marry. That way we can attract more people to the job.

its not just catholics but we are getting the brunt of the blame. Abuse happens at home at school in the neighborhood within families. I don't care what certain people have done, I will continue to support my church.

it's deplorable - but some catholics (my mom) have chosen to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to talking against the catholic church and the sex abuse scandal.
