Before my Mom's stepfather died, he all but told her he was setting something up for her kids (My Brother and Sister and I) he asked for our SSN's and personal info, but he never gave her any details. After his death her mother and siblings became very hateful and she decided that the best thing for everyone would be to not associate with that side of our family anymore. She never asked about any inheritance for her, or for us, and though I respect ehr decision, I'm still curious. Is there a way for me to check into something like that without spending any money? Should I just leave well enough alone? I am open to your opinions.

If you are in the US, go to the county courthouse where he lived. If he had a will, it should be on file there. Try to get a copy of the will, and find out who the executor was - it should say who this was in the will, but I suppose it's possible that it didn't. From there, it's a matter of detective work to figure out what happened to the estate.
If he died without a will, the state laws usually dictate how the property gets divided. Again, the courthouse is the place to start. If there was any estate to divide, they would have a record of it there.
Usually this sort of thing is handled in the Probate Courts, so if you don't know where to start at the courthouse, try there.

The executors of the property are accountable for dispensing the resources based on the desire. It is their obligation to do the whole thing they are able to to hint the beneficiaries, inlcuiding employng privtae investigatos and striking advertisements within the press.

If he had a will or a trust you will be notified (by law) of any remaining assets he left to you...
