You could use it as a source, however I would check the accuracy of the information. Some of the articles in there leaves things out and is a bit biased. Scientific and technical issues are covered quite nicely but some are over the top with their explaination. See timeline of the big bang for an example.
As with any source, cite it.

It's legal as long as you aren't plagiarizing. You are allowed to use Wikipedia as a source. However, when using Wikipedia, be extremely careful. Only use articles that have references and use the references to check the information you get.

You can reference wikipedia as a source but you cannot take large chunks of text or diagrams, that is plagiarism. Wikipedia is not always a reliable source though as anyone can edit it.

Ask your teacher. Some schools do not consider Wikipedia to be a reliable source of information.
