I went for my 6wk 3day u/s today and they just saw an empty sac. The sonogram lady was somewhat concerned. They did an HCG test and my level has gone up to about 17,000. I have had slight symptoms of pregnancy(upset stomach, sore boobs), but they seem to have lessened the past couple days. Should I be concerned about a blighted ovum at this stage or is it common to not see anything until later in pregnancy???

I'm so sorry.

Six weeks is generally a good time to see a fetal pole and even cardiac activity, but it's possible (assuming this wasn't with IUI or IVF) that the calculations are off. Did the nurse tell you the measurements of the sac? By the time it reaches a certain size, an embryo should be visible. You should definitely get another ultrasound in a week. The fact that you didn't see signs of the sac having collapsed or anything along those lines is positive, in my opinion. While it is not too early to be concerned about a blighted ovum, it is too early to make a definitive diagnosis on the basis of that one ultrasound.

Best of luck to you.

Honestly, they should retest you (ultrasound) next week (at 7 weeks at least) to verify that the sac is empty. I too suffered a blighted ovum earlier this year, there were no fetal poles to even suggest that the baby started to develop. It usually "takes care of" itself by the end of week 12, however, I refused to wait that long, it was too painful.

I would suggest you have a second opinion because at 6 weeks on the sonogram you should see a pulsing dot as the baby's heart beat.

I have had one before...Did they tell you to come back for another u/s in a week?? That`s what my doctor did with me..I did miscarry before then though...I was about the same 6 1/2 weeks...when I got pregnant again with my son you could see him at 6 weeks...I wish you the best ...but if it don`t work out don`t give up..
