We were playing the game Balderdash last night & this situation came up but wasn't listed in the rules.

The answer to a "What is this Law?" question was Limberger cheese. One player wrote down the answer - cheese. The reader counted that as a correct and took that players card out of the pile, which we all agreed on since that is a similar answer.

That player doesn't vote but automatically gets 3 points for writing down the correct answer to begin with. Then when others vote for what they think is the correct answer, 3 players voted for Limberger cheese. Should the player who wrote cheese and had the automatic 3 points for writing the correct answer get 3 more points for the people who voted for Limberger cheese or not?

I don't want you opinion on this matter. I want the real rules. Our rules that came with our game just stated that the writer gets 3 points, their card is taken out, and doesn't vote. It doesn't elaborate on if they get points for the others' votes or not.

No, the person removed should not get any points beyond the three. In the rules seen here: http://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/Balderdash.PDF

Under scoring rules it says quite clearly, "One point is given to each player for each vote (or guess) HIS phony definition receives."

Since the player's answer was removed from the voting process, HIS answer did not receive any votes, and so no additional points would be awarded.

OBJECT OF THE GAME
To INVENT a phony definition for each word in play that could be mistaken by the other players as the correct definition. To identify and choose the correct definition for each word in play.
To be the first player to reach the space marked FINISH.

SCORING RULES
1. One point is given to each player for every vote (or guess) his phony definition receives.
2. Two points are awarded to each player who chooses the true BALDERDASH~ meaning.
3. Three points are given to the DASHER only if none of the players choose the true BALDERDASH (R) meaning.
4. Three points are awarded to any player who submits a definition which is similar or very close to the correct meaning

IMPORTANT:
The round is played as usual (with one less definition) but the player who wrote the matching definition does not take part in the voting.

The person who got the right answer does not at all take part of the voting process.

They didnt INVENT a phony definition and the way we play is they SHOULD NOt get rewarded for the others choosing the right answer.
