Don't believe what everyone is telling you. Just go see an orthapedic doctor. But if you want an answer, No. Absolutely not. There is no evidence whatsoever that it can lead to arthritis, etc. When you crack your knuckles, what actually happens is that you are either pushing the joint back into or out of its normal position. Synovial fluid is found between the bones. And when you stretch or pull your finger to get that "crack", you are causing the bones to pull apart. Pressure is reduced on the synovial fluid and bubbles form that quickly expand and then burst - which is why you get that noise. ("Really? How do YOU know all that?" Because I read ANYTHING I can get my hands on.) BUT, it really isn't a good idea to push a joint past it's physical range over and over again. Besides, it gets to be pretty annoying after a while. Trust me.

No,it is not bad.People say it is,but has any effects happened to you when you cracked your knuckles? The only thing that can probably effect you is that it may hurt at times, but simply its not bad

No, it does NOT cause Arthritis. The reason they "crack" is due to the release of air pockets between the joints, that would be released anyway. It is a myth that it causes problems...the only thing that may occur (for me, yes, this is the case), is that your knuckles may become slightly larger, but there is absolutely no bad side effects.

Answer, yes when done in excess it has been found to damage the soft tissue to the joint capsule and a decrease in grip strength.
Quote:
study, done by Raymond Brodeur and published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, examined 300 knuckle crackers for evidence of joint damage. The results revealed no apparent connection between joint cracking and arthritis; however, habitual knuckle poppers did show signs of other types of damage, including soft tissue damage to the joint capsule and a decrease in grip strength. This damage is most likely a result of the rapid, repeated stretching of the ligaments surrounding the joint. A professional baseball pitcher experiences similar, although obviously heightened, effects in the various joints of his pitching arm. But assuming you haven't signed a multimillion dollar contract to constantly pop your knuckles, it hardly seems worth the possible risk to your joints.

Actually I heard that cracking your knuckles doesn't have long term affects. Those are all wives tales. What's cracking is not your bones! It's simply "air pockets" that you are cracking!

You'll be fine!

I've heard that it can contribute to both. You are cracking air bubbles in your cartilage. The more you do it, the higher your chances are; but those diseases also depend on your lifestyle and some genetics...so you are only making the inevitable worse (if it turns out you have a predisposition for it).
