The sticky substance is the sap from the tree sucked by aphids or scale insects and then excreted by them.
Ask for an insect killer and spray thoroughly the tree (undersides too). If they are scales you will need a systemic one
Good Luck

It could be a disease and not bugs! Personaly I would cut as much of the sick branches off (no more than 1/3 of the plant) Pick up some plant vitamin from the local store nothing too potent and be sure to water regularly (dont over water). The sprays are usualy too strong, I'd use a tad bit of dish soap to about a liter of water and that would help with most small insects without being to hard on the ficus>

The sticky stuff is most likely insect poop. If possible, I would take it outside for a good washing with a hose, paying paying particular attention to the undersides of the leaves.
Check for scale insects. The adults look a bit like half of a BB. They will need to be scraped off with your fingernail. You may also need to apply a systemic insecticide. If the infestation is severe, I'd discard the plant.
Good luck!

look again; it appears like you've scale. they're round, flat and in many cases brown, got here upon on the bottom of the leaf and they exude a sweet, sticky substance. in case you do not have too many, you may eliminate them with an alcohol swab yet at the same time as you've too many for that. I positioned one among my vegetation in a large plastic bag, sprayed malathion into the bag and left it for type of one hour. sturdy success. they don't look to be undemanding to administration.

Often times indoor plants are missing a mineral or two. If you are using common fertilizers (M-grow) I would suspect that you are lacking in Iron or Magnesium. Both of these minerals affect the "greeness" and health of leaves...
