Depends on rather your wear warm or cool tones. Warm tones like for redheads and brunettes are like peaches and corals, browns. If you have a cool skin tone, mostly found on blondes, go for reds and mauves.

Me? I don't know. The acids in my lips prevent me from wearing most color lipsticks. If I wear a true red color, it looks pink. If I wear a light purple, it looks like mauve or pink. If I wear brown, it looks darker than the color in the tube itself...

As for yourself...don't wear shimmery lipstick, it makes you look older and outdated, and cheap. Dark lipstick will make your lips look smaller. So stick with nudes, pale pinks...anything light in a Matte finish.

So I just stick to chapstick.

It really depends on your skin color...darker skin tones can wear more Red/Oranges...Lighter skin tones can wear more pinks. Pretty much any skin tone can wear a Red but be careful because Red's make your teeth look more yellow.

Red is hot now. For darkish skinned women, orangy-scarlets are good. Fair skin--pinky reds. Olive skin? Do deep, wineish red. And finally, for medium skin, scarlet is nice. But also, especially on fair skin (but not just), true red looks cool.
