Piercing your own earlobes with a sharp needle, and not numbing it, or getting them done profesionally with a gun?

when I mean doing them yourself, I mean like doing it slowly.....not that it might make a difference, but I'm just saying!

Getting them done professionally, I was in pain for about 2 weeks and had a bad infection in both ears. When I do them myself with ice and a piercing stud they hardly hurt and the infection is never as bad as getting them done professionally. Then again, I'm not that stupid to pierce them with just a needle and no ice. If you use a needle, thumb tack, saftey pin and then put the earring in right after you pierce them, you'll be more prone to infection because you've just irritated the fresh hole. Don't be lazy...

Well, first of all, neither of those options are safe. Piercing your own earlobes can lead to infection because you don't have the nessecary disinfecting equipment. This option would hurt the most.

Getting it done professionaly with a gun is only marginally safer-most people don't know this, but it is piercing guns cannot be sterilized. So even extremely reputable shops often infect the people getting pierced. This option will probably hurt the least, but it is also very dangerous.

Now, the safest option for ear piercing would be getting them done professionaly with a sterilized needle. Tattoo parlors are especially good for this because they use needles to do the tattoos anyway. Look for a shop that has at least one piercer that is a member of the Association of Professional Piercers (which makes the piercer conduct a series of exams to be able to join.)

Good luck!

I pierced my cartliedge (sp?) and it didnt really hurt when i did it (but i did numb it kinda) but afterwards, its really sore and feels bruised.
when i got my lobes peirced, it was fast, not very painful. I mean, i felt it like a pinch, but i would SO rather get it done with a gun.
but if u do do it yourself, make sure you clean the needle, and around the place you're piercing it, and clean it after you've peirced it.

It's better and safer when you get it done professionally. I have 2 piercings on each ear. It doesn't really hurt. I'm 11. I got my first one when i was like 6 months and my second one when i was 10.

My opinion, you should do NEITHER!!!! pay that little extra and have them done by a proffessional peircer. They use hollow needles and the scar tissue is minimal if at all, the pain is less than any other option.

getting them professionally done. It's goes in fast, so you won't have to numb it and you dont feel pain, just a little pressure.

I have 3 ear holes on each ear...got them when I was 12, in Africa.
