My company doesn't give bonuses, but today, I came back from lunch and had a cute little handbag filled with Bath & Body Works stuff, plus $250 in Amex Gift Cheques.

The card was signed by my boss AND another guy who I just started doing work for 6 months ago. He is not technically my boss, but I do a lot of work for his department now.

My guess is...the 'new' boss, put all this together and had my 'real' boss sign along with him (that's they way the card looked).

Anyways, do I thank them verbally, in a card, or what? I don't know what anyone else is receiving. Last year, my old boss (he's since left the company) gave tins of pecans to everyone...!

Thanks.

I don't think a formal thank you note is warranted. The bonus was not specific to you. I am not sure how you communicate with your boss, but a quick informal thanks in an e-mail should suffice. This also depends on the gender of your boss as a male I rarely read cards other than a quick glance, my wife on the other hand always sends thank you cards and expects to receive them. She is very put out if she does not receive a card, and I could careless.

Absolutely! Give both of your bosses a Christmas card with a big thank you in it! Even if the other guy is "technically not your boss," you don't know for sure that he wasn't helpful in getting you that bonus.

Absolutely, thank them in person and a written note would be the polite think to do for their generosity...even if the "real" boss just went along, it was a very thoughtful gift.

I would send a thank you note and a Merry Christmas card to each of them. That is a very sweet gift.

Give both of them a seperate thank you card and don't mention it to anyone else since they might not have gotten any gifts.
