A Cretin is kind of an idiot - an uneducated, moron - more or less. Someone who is not open to open-thinking, stubborn, and sort of stupid. Set in their way about being stupid, too.
The people of Crete (the Cretins) were thought by many of the time to be this way - so that's where the term comes from.

Originally, the word cretin describes a medical condition of people whose growth is stunted due to the absence of the thyroid hormone.
This condition was very well documented a few centuries ago when the absence of iodine in the diet had caused cretinism to happen in the so called "thyroid belts" in Europe.

I believe you mean cretin - it's official definition is a moron, idiot, retard, half-wit, etc. It means someone who is not too bright.
