Part of the movie, like any movie, were altered "for effect," but yes, the storyline was real. The battles in Leningrad and other Russian cities were particularly brutal on both sides. Yes, the Russians would shoot their own men if they tried to retreat.

The hero of the movie was a real Russian sniper. Look him up on line!

Now how MUCH was real, I do not know. But there was a sniper v.s. sniper battle at Stalingrad. Russia's best and Germany's best. The names of the two men are also real, as in the movie. The rifles were also accurately depicted.

I agree with Tim. I found the plot to be unbelievable and was shocked to find it was true. There was a sniper duel played out both in the streets and in the press.

yea it was based on true events but some events are exagerated .. so yea the story is real but some scenes are just for entertainment

i think it was fiction, then again it might have been real, maybe is you yahoo the movie name they might have a website, they should tell you if it was real or fiction there
