On a City Tour of Rio we were shown the Maracana Stadium (but only from the outside) and were told that it is the world's largest football stadium - capacity 200,000 spectators. I believe that, as Brazil and Pele are synonymous with football.
Then in the Czech Republic, there is the huge Strahov-Stadium in Prague seating even more - 250,000. However, this is not strictly a football stadium since it was built for the erstwhile Communist Party Rallies.
